In 2008, we will further our advocacy efforts around three key issues that we believe are the most integral to our quality of life and our city’s economic competitiveness: Sustainable Development, Workforce Housing and Education and Workforce Development. |
LABC advocacy initiatives are informed by scholastic research and furthered through intensive dialogue between key business and government leaders. In this way, the LABC is able to advocate for comprehensive solutions that best serve our broad member base and the communities in which they live and work.
Each edition of LABConnected will feature an “LABC ToolKit” that is the product of these efforts. This is a member-only benefit, designed to be an easily navigated, central resource for information, and an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, ideas and personal experience around a topic.
This edition’s Toolkit will help you to understand the complexity of L.A.’s many “green” policies and programs, and to help you to take advantages of efficiencies and incentives when you build green in the City of L.A.

“As a result of strong actions we are taking today, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is becoming a leader in the fields of renewable energy, water and electricity conservation, the growth of green industries, prioritizing green buildings and restructuring rates to incentivize conservation. The LADWP is at the forefront now and will continue to lead in making Los Angeles the ‘biggest green city in the United States.’ We value the input and participation of the LABC as we move forward on a new course to meet our goals.” |
| |
LABC member and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Nahai was a co-chair of our inaugural Sustainability Summit in 2007. We are proud to help Mr. Nahai spread the message about his organization’s energy conservation goals. |

"Forest City employs the ‘Triple Bottom Line’ concept in order to strategically and competitively balance environmental resources, economic objectives and social systems to operate our business and to invest in new opportunities. Employing the Triple Bottom Line means understanding the methods of sustainable practices that are available to a real estate development company, assessing existing operational practices, and most importantly, understanding the benefits of eco-friendly, sustainable development." |
Forest City and its president, LABC member Kevin Ratner, have been strong supporters of both housing and sustainability efforts and have been instrumental in helping us reach our 2007 program and advocacy goals. |
