Los Angeles Business Council Statement on Governor’s Budget Proposal to Combat Homelessness

Jan 10, 2020

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (January 9, 2020) —We applaud Governor Newsom’s budget proposal to allocate more than $1.4 billion to combat homelessness on both the local and state level. Homelessness is the greatest humanitarian crisis in recent California history. Our recent poll the LABC Institute conducted in partnership with the Los Angeles Times found that voters nearly unanimously view homelessness as the No.1 most serious problem in L.A., and the majority feel current funding and policies are inadequate.

This budget proposal treats homelessness as the real emergency that it is. We encourage lawmakers to urgently approve and expedite the Governor’s proposal and allocate the funds necessary to combat this growing crisis.
