Additional awards recognize leaders for tackling state’s housing, mobility challenges
LOS ANGELES — Ahead of the 2021 Mayor Housing, Transportation and Jobs Summit, the Los Angeles Business Council will recognize leaders whose efforts over the past year have helped address L.A.’s homelessness, housing and mobility challenges. The awards will be presented during a virtual reception on Thursday, Feb. 18.
- Gavin Newsomwill accept the Tim O’Connell Philanthropic Awardfor his leadership on Project Homekey, which has delivered more than 6,000 interim and permanent supportive housing units. He will accept on behalf of a team of county, city, and foundation partners, includingtheLos Angeles County Department of Mental Health,theHousing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), theLos Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA),theCity Administrative Officer of Los Angeles,Kaiser Permanente,Blue Shield of California, andtheChan Zuckerberg Initiative.
- TheHousing Impact Awardwill be presented to State Sen. Anna Caballero, SD 12, for her work on SB 744, which helped streamline the process to build supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness who also have a mental illness.
- California Transportation Commission Chair Hilary Nortonwill accept the LABC Chairman’s Awardfor her work to address congestion and advance transportation equity as executive director of FASTLink DTLA. Through its FlexLA micro-mobility pilot, FASTLink DTLA has given more than 3,000 free or low-cost rides to fill gaps in Downtown LA’s transit connections.
