Los Angeles Business Council Statement on Prop 10

Mary Leslie
President, Los Angeles Business Council

The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) today released the following statement in regards to voters defeating Proposition 10, a ballot measure on rent control:

In light of the defeat of Proposition 10 – an initiative our organization strongly opposed – the Los Angeles Business Council urges policy leaders at both the state and local level to get back to the important work of exploring smart, effective and vetted policy options to better serve the people of California.

It is imperative that we remove unnecessary barriers to construction while focusing on smart, sustainable and dense development. We made progress towards this goal last year with the passage of SB 35 which simplified the approval process for multifamily housing projects and has already made building new affordable units faster and easier. Legislation that focuses on TODs, high-density development, and affordable units is key to helping Los Angeles, and California overall, reach our housing goals.

It is the hope of the LABC and the businesses we represent that we continue to pass legislation aimed at increasing the supply of housing, reducing the barriers to affordable housing production, and reforming the CEQA process.
