News from the LABC

Join the Los Angeles Business Council for a webinar discussion with experts from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority on the current efforts underway to house and ensure the safety of Los Angeles' homeless population.
The State of California has estimated that 60,000 homeless people could contract COVID-19, with 20% potentially needing hospitalization. To address this uptick in hospitalizations, the State would need 12,000 hospital beds just for the homeless population.
In Los Angeles, Mayor Garcetti has authorized the conversion of 42 recreation centers into temporary shelters, providing 6,000 new beds.
The first phase of shelters included 13 locations opened up this past weekend to provide 1,600 beds for those at greatest risk. The County of Los Angeles, thLos Angeles Homeless Service Authority (LAHSA), and other partners are working to identify those most at risk for immediate placement.
