Embracing the Green Economy

Sustainability is good business – and the LABC is leading the way.

In California…

California continues to lead the country in clean energy jobs.
Los Angeles is ranked the No. 1 city in the U.S. for solar energy.
Los Angeles is committed to 100% clean energy by 2035.

One of the LABC’s core policy positions is that environmental stewardship and economic growth go hand-in-hand.

We are proud that L.A. is leading the country in solar power, green jobs, and water conservation — with a thriving economy and cleaner environment to show for it.

The entire state of California stands on the front lines in the fight against climate change, with the most aggressive environmental laws in the country. We also continue to outpace the nation in terms of economic growth.

At the LABC, we understand strong environmental policies create sustainable, quality jobs that Californians can count on.

Local Solar Initiatives

The LABC is dedicated to helping model, scale, and accelerate the use of renewable energy sources in order to create a cleaner and more reliable energy network for Los Angeles.

Feed-in Tariff (FiT)

The LABC is a long-time champion of the FiT program, which allows individuals to sell energy generated from their rooftop solar back to the grid- a guaranteed revenue stream! Learn more about LABC’s FiT Program.

Net Metering (NEM)

NEM systems connect rooftop solar to the grid, creating flexibility for the solar rooftop owner. If extra energy is needed, the grid will supply it. If energy is abundant, it can be exported to the grid and offset the owner’s electric bill.

Solar Plus Storage

Solar plus storage saves energy produced by rooftop solar panels for later use. Energy storage plays an important role in creating a more flexible and reliable grid system.

L.A.’s Feed-in Tariff Program: Delivering Economic Benefits with Rooftop Solar

The Feed-in Tariff program fights climate change and creates economic opportunity by turning unused rooftop space into clean-power generators.

The LABC is a longtime champion for the Feed-in Tariff, or FiT program, which allows local property owners, solar companies and third parties to sell solar power generated from underused rooftops back to the L.A. Department of Water and Power for distribution on the city’s power grid.

Today, Los Angeles leads the largest FiT program in the nation. It has helped building owners turn their roofs into revenue, created thousands of high-quality local jobs, and avoided the release of 2.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

The LABC is a proud member of the Green Together Collaborative, a partnership designed to harness rooftop solar and other initiatives to strengthen the local economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Pacoima-Sun Valley area.
